Show at the Heart gallery, primary care centre , Colchester.

 

I put this show up last tuesday 3rd of June …the bonus is i had 3 technicians to help me . I walked in ready with the drill and brass screws …but help was at hand…it took all but 20mins to get them all perfectly hung !!!

The work is mostly my work from the past previos 2 years barr the paintings i put in between which are a new set of works called ‘Love is all we need’ putting man and women separate and together..

Artists that have referenced witches

in relation to feminism the set of ‘The Pendle Witches ‘ have  a warm joyous nature to them diverging from the grim reality of the witch trials and Lancashire and Tudor living, if you read’ Mist over Pendle’ you.ll get the picture.

men picked on women as they were the weaker sex and the men who were accused of being witches were either sticking up for the accused women or intensely disliked by the the  locals..either way the few men in power used it wrongly and repeats itself throughout history so Regos pictorial fantasy brings us into the fantastical world of stories and old wives tales.

Other artists such as Goya references witches  black Sabbath and the pre raphaelite  Sandys 1864 oil on panel…… romantic-es the female figure into a femme fatale with healing powers..i should link herbalism and healers into the handmade paper i have been making.. and looking into manuscripts of WANTED signs here be witches or the fantastic discoverie of witches by a horrible king.

Where is my art practice going

Thoughts  of where my art practice into the form of book art….

I feel  that  at this moment in time that i do want a traditional book form ‘but’ what’s inside the pages doesn’t have to be paper like the cut out books you see.

Mike sullivan bookbinder gave us a talk on bookbinding giving us a run down on what to expect when binding a book especially if you use indesign…

I feel that i want my book to be as art as possible.

The contents are definitely research based , on the witch trials so my art will be a direct response to my findings almost like a survey as i go from place to place….

I used pinhole photography throughout my BA fine art degree and delivered my message across effectively however even though i love this medium i feel this project willl definately be multi media melsding lots of elements into book form.

My invetigation started with a trip to Colchester castle  .booking myself a place on the dark tours…on a moonlit night our tour guide locked us in the prison cells for riding bananas ….this is the place where the accused witches were held for trial and tortured…apparently the jailer would get the women pregnant to escape execution as it was unlawful to condemn a pregnant women to death …also torture was sexual… Hopkins must have been a jealous little man very clever to have manipulated so many into believing in him a capitalist scheme making money out of superstition…how will i relate this in a visual audio sense i for my ba fine art made stills in a cinematic theme taking from horror how a witch was tried now i have to take the subject further… I talk and ask people about it bringing this up to date and if i think about this carefully in relation to how people in power manipulate the masses the internet being a very powerful medium.
